"Safety" by Team Leader Carl

If I was to think about the context of a group of rising freshmen learning about safety on the Freedom Tour I would have thought about how they would be absorbing how the military protected our freedom to feel safe.  This of course is true but last night they learned a different definition of safety.  They experienced the highest level of trust by being totally open with their emotions as a group then supporting each other as it came pouring out.   This kind of trust is rare even in one on one relationships, to see it in a a group of 14 year olds was overwhelming.   The social groups disintegrated and kids who rarely talked all year in school offered an embrace for each other in what was one of the most moving experiences I have ever witnessed. They will never forget the safety they felt in exposing their most vulnerable side to each other.
